Well it's been an eye opening few days. Sean Clark had his art scanner
project on display at broadway. ( sean has started a phd at the Ioct).
I'd suggest everyone to go to the next festival!

Trampoline

Went to trampoline last night. Didn't stay for long as I was tired.
Saw a couple of installations, enjoyed it.

Dislocate

Well after a day of either flakyness and dry pomposity with the odd
sprinkling of interest, I've come up to the hand in heart on derby rd
to see the dislocate. It's a show by up and coming Japanese artists.
It is brilliant!!! The ideas and delivery of the work have been
presented immaculately. Everyone should go and see this. It certainly
raises the question of proffesionalism for regional artists?

Aaaarrrghhh

Four men sat on a panel, patting each other on the back whilst
stabbing each other in the gut. All getting lost in their own
verbosity, talking over each other, going off on tangents and not
giving any consideration to the audience that came to hear them speak
on a pre stated subject. It seems like revolt now, mass exodus.

Going underground

Commisioned artists working under the theme of going underground gave
a short introduction to their works exhibited during the festival
(mainly at the surface gallery). The work on show at the surface is
predominately documentation and artifacts of a process. Mmmm, brings
on questions as to wether a gallery space is the right place to
display documentation of process....

Day 2 - jodi presentation

These artists are using equations to create plotted drawings on google
earth. (it's a bit like a spirograph done with code). The images
created are quite interesting, but they've not explained why they are
doing it! Pretty patterns with maths?

End of the first day!

Well that's it for today. Met up with some old friends and chatted to
quite a few people that I've wanted to meet for some time! If you ever

Origami biro and the joy of box

Last musical treat for the evening. They live sample sound and video,
loop and effect what they've just captured to create am experience
that is just mesmerizing

Chris Cousin & Jim Vent

At the New art exchange. 1st up are Jim & Chris. What can I say? 2
blokes scrunched over laptops, twiddling knobs on control surfaces
with their own max/msp patches. 1 is distorting some video, the other
is subjecting us to a sonic bombardment ( which I rather quite like!).

Surface gallery

Went to have a look at the work exhibited at the new surface gallery.
I liked on/off by glen davidson, a slick and well fabricated work,
although I did question why the lights were wired in series?

How we are sold the vision of a near future that was the same vision

Duncan campbell

Journalist Duncan Campbell just gave one of the most fear inducing
talks I have heard. He was spelling out the governments and telecom
providers plans for surveillance and data storage. 'we've gone beyond
1984'

Thursday morning

The first talk today was on "networked environments or the Internet of
things". The panel consisted of: usman haque, rob van kranemburg,
holger schnadelbach, sean dobson.
Usman was inspiring. He talked about the ecosystems of environments.
He's also developed a system called pachube, which patchs data streams
to actuate other devices. Www.haque.co.uk

Rob van kranemburg talked about:
RFID gardens
Ambient intelligence
Katachi
Briolabs

The discussion was questioning who should have control(if any) of
these ubiquitous networks.

Does this work?

Hello everyone,
This is my very first blog of any kind! I'm at the radiator symposium
"exploits in the wireless city". So this is an experiment for me,
firstly to create a blog and then to report on the symposium/ festival
only using my phone. Let's see how I go (typing on this phone is quite
slow).
